PC AnyWhere

Connecting to A Computer Outside the WinProxy Firewall
No configuration is needed if you are running a default installation of WinProxy 3.0. By 'default' we mean that in WinProxy:-
  • Client Access Method is set to 'Transparent Proxy - all connections' [File -> Advanced Settings -> Client Access Method].
  • Firewall is set to 'Medium' [File -> Advanced Settings -> Firewall].
In addition to the settings above, make sure that:-
  1. The client computer that will be used has the internal IP address of the WinProxy computer as it's 'Gateway' address. Refer to How to Configure DNS, Gateway & Socks.
  2. Within PC AnyWhere enter in the actual IP address of the computer you want to connect to.

Connecting to A Computer On and Behind WinProxy
PC AnyWhere, by default, uses two ports to make and to wait for connections. (PC AnyWhere typically uses ports 5631 and 5632) If you would like to connect to multiple computers this will pose as a problem. You will not be able to connect to multiple computers if they are listening on the same ports. The only way around this is to configure each computer to listen on unique ports. Changing PC AnyWhere’s ports can only be done by editing its registry settings. To change this:
  1. Open up the Registry Editor by clicking on Start -> Run, typing in “regedit”, and clicking on 'OK'.
  2. In the Registry Editor, look under HKEY LOCAL MACHINES -> Software -> Symantec -> PC AnyWhere -> Current Version -> System.
  3. Under the System Key you will see two entries: TCPIP Data port and TCPIP Status port.
  4. Right click on one of those entries and choose 'Modify'.
  5. In the Base section, click on the radio button 'Decimal'.
  6. Enter a unique number for each computer. For example, enter 5633 for one entry and 5634 for the other entry.
  7. When you are done changing the values, go to the File Menu and select 'Exit'.
The computer you have changed will now be listening and connecting to ports 5633 and 5634. If you would like to “PC AnyWhere” to this computer, you too will have to change the remote control computer to connect on ports 5633 and 5634.

Connecting to the WinProxy Computer and One Client
This is a two-step procedure: STEP 1 - Configuring the WinProxy computer to accept connections for PC AnyWhere. STEP 2 - Configuring a client computer (Client 1) to accept connections for PC AnyWhere.

STEP 1 - Configuring the WinProxy computer to accept connections for PC AnyWhere

  1. In WinProxy, click on File -> Advanced Settings -> Firewall -> New Applications.
  2. For 'Application Name' enter in any name you want, then click on 'New Filter'.
  3. For 'Filter Settings' enter in "From 5631 to 5632"; select 'TCP' and 'Incoming', then click on 'New Filter'.
  4. For 'Filter Settings' enter in "From 5631 to 5632"; select 'UDP' and 'Incoming', then click on Done -> OK -> OK.

STEP 2 - Configuring a client computer (Client 1) to accept connections for PC AnyWhere

  • To allow the client computer to accept connections you will need to make changes in PC AnyWhere's registry settings on that client computer.
    • Open up the Registry Editor. To do this click on Start -> Run, type in “regedit”, then click 'OK'.
    • In the Registry Editor, look under HKEY LOCAL MACHINES -> Software -> Symantec -> PC AnyWhere -> Current Version -> System.
    • Under the System Key you will see two entries: TCPIP Data port and TCPIP Status port.
    • Right-click on one of those entries and choose 'Modify'.
    • In the Base section, click on the radio button 'Decimal'.
    • Enter a unique number for each computer. You can use 5633 for one entry and 5634 for the other entry.

    • When you are done changing the values, go to the File Menu and select 'Exit'.

Your client computer will now accept connections on ports 5633 and 5634.

  • Next, map incoming ports (both TCP and UDP) in WinProxy to that client computer (Client 1) for ports 5633 and 5634. Save your WinProxy settings.
You now have both the server and client accepting connections using PC AnyWhere.

  • Server - The server accepting connections on ports 5631 and 5632.
  • Client - The client computer (Client 1) accepting connections on ports 5633 and 5634.

REMEMBER
If you want to connect to the WinProxy machine, the default settings for PC AnyWhere should work. If you would like to connect to the client machine, you will have to change the registry settings in your remote computer to make PC AnyWhere connections for ports 5633 and 5634, otherwise you will only be able to connect to the server.

The connections mentioned above are made like this:
Fig. 1 - The remote computer (by default) will connect to the WinProxy machine.

Fig. 2 - The remote computer (by modifying registry to connect on ports 5635 and 5634) will connect to Client 1.

Adding A Second Client
To configure a second client (Client 2) to accept connections you will have to configure PC AnyWhere to accept connections on two different ports, like 5635 and 5636. You will also have to map four incoming ports (both TCP and UDP) in WinProxy to point to the second client (Client 2) for ports 5635 and 5636. To connect to that second client (Client 2) from outside, you will have to change the registry settings to make PC AnyWhere connections for ports 5635 and 5636.

Fig. 3 - The remote computer (by modifying registry to connect on ports 5635 and 5636) will connect to Client 2.
