Napster
Assumption: You are using WinProxy's default settings, i.e. transparent proxy (client access method) and medium (firewall level).
Configuring Napster from a WinProxy client is fairly simple and easy assuming you have connectivity from the client machines and have enabled Socks in WinProxy. To configure Napster refer to the information below:
STEP 1
In the ‘Connection Information’ box you will need to select your line speed and click next.
STEP 2
In the ‘Napster Configuration’ box sign up with them or enter your previous user name and password. Click->Next
STEP 3
In the 'File Server Settings' box, you can stick with the default selection, which is "I am behind a firewall that restricts inbound TCP and I can do nothing about it." This option will classify the connection as “firewalled.” Click OK.
However, if you get into Napster and find that you can not download music files go back to Napster's 'File Server Settings' and select the option "I am not behind a firewall or I configured my firewall - Use TCP port 6699". Click OK.
STEP 4
- If you find yourself not connecting at this point, Napster will still install and allow you to edit its proxy settings.
- Click->File->Preferences->Proxy.
- Under ‘Proxy Type’ select SOCKS 5 proxy server.
- Under ‘Proxy Server’ enter the internal IP address of the Winproxy computer.
- Under ‘Proxy Port’ enter in 1080 (the default port for socks)
- Click on OK
NOTE
- Because of the court ruling over Napster you may experience login authentication errors. We found that trying to login immediately after you are reject will allow you to login through another one of their servers.
- You will experience difficult download times when the person you are trying to get Mp3’s from also has a firewall on their side.
