Secure Computing SmartFilter Control List

Internet access is managed and monitored through the dynamic SmartFilter Control List. The Control List provides the industry's most comprehensive and proven database of URLs available today, featuring more than 500,000 entries. Secure Computing uses automated tools to continually search the Internet for new sites and pages that meet the content criteria for the 30 Control List categories. Candidate sites are then added to the Control List, after being viewed and approved by our Control List technicians.

The 30 SmartFilter Control List categories represent general content types, encompassing a wide variety of materials. All sites defined within each category are deemed potentially inappropriate for today's typical workplace or educational environment. In the broad context of cultural norms and individual taste, what is considered inappropriate may be debatable. However, Secure Computing considers the sites in the 30 Control List categories to be non-business related and unproductive for most employees or students to view in a standard business or educational environment.

Identifying sites for inclusion in one of the SmartFilter categories is an ongoing task, and Secure Computing does not guarantee that all potential sites within a given category have been identified. Therefore, users are encouraged to consult our SmartFilter "where tool" to determine whether a specific site is defined in the current SmartFilter Control List. Sites may also be submitted by users for indexing.
